July the Forth is always associated
with tall ships in a harbor. This
July forth, there is a particular ship
and it is almost ready to set sail. I
am talking about the launching of THE
BOOMERS INTERNATIONAL WEBSITE. It is
becoming a thing of beauty. It will be
your playground. It will be your home.
We would like it to be the most successful
site on the Internet.
We need your help to make that happen.

Club are like family to us. As it is in
all close families, we must pull together to
make this work. First and foremost, we need
all of you to join the Website - you are the
charter members. Then we need you to help us

SECTION TWO - SUMMER SUNBURN
Sunny days can mean sunburns. This is what
the editors of Prevention magazine have to say
about sunburns and how to treat them.
"In a case of mild sunburn, the skin will
feel hot and tight. It will also look pink to
scarlet in color. In a severe sunburn, the color
will be deeper, a reddish-purple hue. Swelling
and blistering may develop.
Heat rash can develop soon after a sunburn.
As the burn heals, the skin will darken and peel.
Mottled discoloration may appear and last for
months or years.
BEST RESPONSE:
...For all-over relief from a mild sunburn,
try a soothing bath...pour a cup of white vinegar
into a tub of cool - not hot - water which will
reduce the redness and swelling. And drink plenty
of water to replace lost fluids.
You can repeat with cold soaks for 10 to 20
minutes at a time, two to four times a day. In
between soaks, you should soothe particularly sore
and red areas. A sprinkling of baby powder can be
soothing and help you ease into your clothes.
If your sunburn is severe - meaning the skin
blisters and swells - see a physician."

SECTION FOUR - A TASTE OF SUMMER
There used to be a time when you could only get
strawberries in the summer. Cherries were available
very briefly and then disappeared like firefly light
from the shelves. Watermelon offered up its peculiar
sweetness from June through August then hid for the
other nine months.
Lemonade was strictly for summer and was unavailable
at any other time (even if it was in the grocery store,
you didn't notice it until June).
You could get iced tea in restaurants during all
four seasons but the waiter would make a face if you
asked for it from September through May.
We used to know summer was here by the fruit rinds
and peels on our table, the tastes in our glasses. Now
we have other benchmarks to mark that a new season has
come to join us. Not better benchmarks. Not worse.
Just different.
But I still miss the tastes of my summers.
