French cuisine. 
  The elegant, formal dining room provides an
 atmosphere of refinement.

  The menu at Antoine's changes monthly and features
 a particular theme and 
  ingredient. Gerard Vie, executive chef of the 
Trianon Palace in Versailles, 
  France, is the consulting chef at Antoine's and 
he visits here twice a year. 
  Jean Pierre Lemanissier is the executive chef at 
Antoine's and he presents 
  a menu of classic French cuisine as well as
 creative daily special dishes.
  Antoine's is the recipient of many awards from

  Dining Award and a four-diamond rating from the
 American Automobile Association.

   Situated right in the Malibu Colony Plaza along the Pacific Coast Highway.
   Granita is the creation of restaurant designer Barbara Lazaroff and renowned 
   chef Wolfgang Puck. Requiring three years of planning and construction at a 
   cost of $3.2 million, Granita uses colors, textures and forms to represent 
   the sea. Sea shapes are expressed in ceramic, glass, metal and stone.
   In addition to the main dining room, outdoor dining is available on the
   patio. The kitchen, which is open to view from the dining area, uses a 
   wood-burning oven for creating gourmet pizzas and other baked delicacies.
   Chef Kevin Ripley oversees preparation of Granita's menu of Californian,
   Mediterranean and Asian specialties. Among the menu choices are seafood, 
   fowl, lamb, beef and pasta.
   The restaurant, which opened in 1991, seats 180.

DESCRIPTION:
Owned by Dudley Moore, Liza Minnelli and restaurateur 
Tony Bill, 72 Market was designed to be architecturally stunning
and to provide a great environment for the enjoyment of excellent food.
This chic restaurant truly offers a one-of-a-kind dining experience.
Seafood, including many varieties of oysters flown in fresh from
both coasts, and American classics such as meatloaf, are among 
the house specialties.
The menu includes crab cakes with caviar, clams casino, chili,
smoked eel salad with a sweet saki vinaigrette, sauteed Chilean
seabass, grilled Louisiana sausages and grilled filet mignon 
brushed with spicy garlic butter, as well as duck, chicken,
pasta and pork entrees.
  The restaurant, which opened in 1984, seats 115.

This restaurant, with its 35,000-bottle wine cellar and
excellent French cuisine, is a culinary dream.
La Rive Gauche has won numerous awards, including the 
American Academy of Restaurant Sciences' recognition as
one of the top 10 French restaurants in the U.S. in 1993. 
The Wine Spectator magazine calls it one of the top 100 
in the world.
The softly-lit restaurant on a Palos Verdes back street specializes
in its lack of microwaves, frozen food or cans. 
The food is as visually appealing as it is delicious.
The restaurant opened in 1976.  Jackets are recommended.

DESCRIPTION:
Arches was the first restaurant to be issued a liquor
license in Newport Beach. This local institution has built
its reputation on a cuisine that features tableside preparation,
an award-winning wine list of more than 700 selections and 
old-fashioned service.

dish was said to be a well-done New York steak with baked
potatoes and salad.
The menu offers more than 250 items for lunch and dinner,
emphasizing the traditional rather than the trendy.
Fresh seasoned seafood, veal, poultry and lamb 
dishes and flaming desserts are among the many choices.
Entrees include a garden vegetable, potato or rice 
pilaf and choice of soup or salad.
The elegant decor features booths for privacy and 
ornate rose-colored wood paneling.

DESCRIPTION:
Topped by its famous cupola, the Balboa Pavilion has been the 
focal point of the fabulous Newport Beach playground since 1905.
In its early days, stylish bathers in ankle-length bathing togs
crowded its beaches and bath houses.
The pavilion hosted the first Surfboard Riding Championship 
Races in 1932 and was the birthplace of a popular dance, the 
Balboa Hop, during the Big Band swing era and is known as a 
prime viewing area of the annual Snowbird Regatta, which first
 took place in 1926.
This historic structure is the site of a fine restaurant, the Tale
of the Whale, which features fresh seafood, superb views and
many historic photos. House specialties include chioppino -'
a delightful spicy tomato bouillon with a potpourri of white fish,
crab legs, lobster, shrimp, oysters and clams.
The restaurant seats 165.

A dark green color scheme, antiques and paintings,
many of which originated in Europe, lend a romantic charm to 
Partners Bistro. Here, chef and owner Rick Sadleir prepares
such specialties as fettucine with Cajun chicken, salmon in 
parchment and filet mignon.
Upstairs from Partners Bistro is another romantic dining area,
The Terrace, a glass-enclosed room nestled under an old pepper tree.

  Azzura Point is at Loews Coronado Bay Resort with views of the bay bridge 
  and San Diego skyline.  It is long known as San Diego's hottest restaurant 
  and recommended by the Los Angeles Times' magazine. San Diego Magazine also 
  gave the restaurant rave reviews as did the Zagat survey in 1993.
  The restaurant specializes in preparing seafood with an Asian flair, 
  including pan-seared Chilean sea bass and grilled Pacific swordfish. 
  The resort itself is situated on a private 15-acre peninsula off the 
  community of Coronado on San Diego Bay.
