Hi, you mostly have to make reservation as the non rainy season is also the tourist season and everyone flocks to the coast. As you get to the region between Carmel and San Luis Obispo, there will be many less people than Napa, but also many less places to stay.
Some must stop places in Monterey Bay:
Check out the wineries in Santa Cruz Mountains: http://www.scmwa.com/
Santa Cruz Wharf, and beaches: http://www.ci.santa-cruz.ca.us/pr/wharf/
The Monterey Bay Aquarium: http://www.mbayaq.org/
An affordable B&B in Monterey: http://www.bbonline.com/ca/delmontebeach/index.html
Point Lobos Reserve, just south of Carmel: http://santalucia.sierraclub.org/ptlobos.html
If you can afford it, stay at one of the places in Big Sur that have hot springs over looking the ocean--a truely memorable experience: http://www.esalen.org/place/hot_springs.shtml
or one of the places that offers a full spa experience overlooking the ocean: http://www.ventanainn.com/
or Post Ranch Inn, both could be the highlight of your anniversary.
have a great trip!
PS: could you let us know where you end up staying? My cousin and her husband want to do the same thing this summer.
: Hi everyone!!
: Mitze my wife and I are plannng a trip for our Anniversary. We are thinking about flying onto San Francisco and making the trip through Carmel, Monterey,
: and end up in Beverly Hills/Hollywood and fly back from LA.
: The frist night we may stay in Nappa. I want to do Bed and Breakfast Inns along the way.
: I sell to Hospitality and the Ritz Carlton in San Francisco Half Moon Bay is one of our customers and I could stay one evening there basically at no cost.
: But the rest of the trip B&B Inss only.
: Any input would be most helpful like best time of the year etc.
: Also I know depending on the time we come, but should I make reservations anywhere? We were thinking just driving and stopping wherever. We like adventures.
