With the advanced bio-medical technology, today seniors are mostly healthier and live longer.
Growing older can be rewarding and fun but the fact of life is "Aging can mean loneliness and depression" This was indeed the fate of many previous generations of older Americans, mostly because society had no role for them. Today's seniors increasingly are finding alternatives to being alone, such as house-sharing or moving to senior living communities, where they can maintain social connections, continue to learn, and contribute to the larger community through employment or volunteerism.
The prolonged living well into the late 90s and 100s mean that some of these seniors will have to start to be CARED for daily & personally. The choice for family is to take them into the younger family's home or put them into the nursing home - which is the last resort and viable since many young family are normally busy making ends meet and none can not afford to stay
home and provide 24 hours care to their parents or even hire a care-giver/care-taker to take over the caregiving role.
